Because massage movements cause friction which can be painful, oils and lotions are used so reduce the friction and make massage feel good. Various scents are combined from essential oils to make 'potions' that are pleasant smelling to help relaxation.
The essential oils are added to a carrier base, either oil or lotion. The carrier oil used is grapeseed oil which is a light oil that provides long lasting glide for massage. It is a polyunsaturated oil that is rich in linoleic acid, an essential fatty acid excellent for nourishment and reduction of cholesterol. Grapeseed oil is also rich in vitamin E, which may prevent cancer and will promote healthy skin and muscles. The oil can also be used unscented for those that may be allergic to certain scents, or those that don't want the scent following them through the day. If oil is not wanted, lotion is available. This lotion contains rapeseed, soy, coconut, and wheat germ oils along with cocoa butter, vitamin E, and chamomile.
